Last Sunday, 7 June 2026, on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, thirteen Jesuit scholastics from the community of San Saba (Rome) were conferred the Ministry of Acolyte. Of these thirteen, four belong to the Euro-Mediterranean Province.
Last Sunday, 7 June 2026, on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, thirteen Jesuit scholastics from the community of San Saba (Rome) were conferred the Ministry of Acolyte. Of these thirteen, four belong to the Euro-Mediterranean Province.
Andrea Cassar SJ, a young Maltese Jesuit who is entering his fifth year of formation in the Society, writes:
“For us Jesuits in formation, this stage is part of a longer journey that will lead us, in the future, towards the diaconate, that is, the first degree of the sacrament of Holy Orders.
The principal task of the acolyte is to assist the priest and the deacon in liturgical celebrations and to distribute or expose the Eucharist as an extraordinary minister. The contact that his ministry leads him to have with the weak and the sick encourages him to become an instrument of the love of Christ and the Church towards them.
For most of us, this celebration marked the end of a course of philosophical studies here in Rome (lasting two or three years), as we await the next stage of our formation: Regency.
We will carry in our hearts all the friends and people who have supported and accompanied us during this time.”
We wish Andrea and his companions blessings, courage and a heart filled with love for our Lord as they continue to serve His Kingdom so generously.
