Every month the Pope's prayer intentions video, a global initiative followed by millions of people, is circulated. In Malta, besides circulating the English version, we work on its translation into Maltese together with the Digital Presence Office of the diocese.
Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (PWPN) in Malta
On the 19th of March, feast of St Joseph, Fr. General sent a letter to the Society to hearten our commitment to the mission of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network entrusted to us by the Holy See. Our team in Malta has participated very actively in this renewal of the spiritual tradition of the Apostleship of Prayer since its inception in 2010. Year after year we have visited the vast majority of our parishes during Sunday Mass to familiarize the general public with the main outcomes of its regeneration. The parish priests have always been very supportive, pleased to perceive that the common people align well with this spiritual proposal.
An important feature of the renewal that has taken place is the Pope’s video where the Pope himself is seen engaged in the monthly intention which he proposes for prayer and action to all people of good will. It is a global initiative followed by millions of people. In Malta, besides circulating the English version, we work on its translation together with the Digital Presence Office of the diocese. It is attracting a large audience. For instance, the February Maltese version was viewed by more than 20,000 and received about 900 reactions! Eucharistic Youth Movement (EYM)
The Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network has its youth proposal called the Eucharistic Youth Movement (EYM). It is a global initiative for children and young people, present in over 50 countries around the world, that seeks to form them as friends and apostles of Christ through prayer, living the Eucharist, and promoting service.
In Malta this community, which is in its 11th year now, consists of around 150 members ranging from ages 8 to 25, with members meeting weekly or fortnightly. They are organized in four divisions. The youngest, 8-10 years old, are called Young Stars and they are led to be inspired by Jesus as a person of awareness; the next division, 11-13 years old are called Fire Friends with Jesus discovered as a person of friendship; for the Journey Companions, 14-17 years old, Jesus is experienced as a person of community; while the Pre-witnesses, 18-25 years meet Jesus as a person of witness.
These Malta members are very much in touch with the other EYM members of the EUM province and they participate in the yearly Assembly held in Rome which hosts hundreds of other EYM members from our Province.
