Seven Destinations, One Mission
As departure dates draw nearer, anticipation continues to grow. The months of preparation have already been a valuable part of the experience, fostering commitment, generosity and a deeper awareness of the realities faced by others. The students now look forward to sharing their time, energy and talents in service, while remaining open to the many lessons and encounters that these summer experiences will undoubtedly bring.
As another busy academic year draws to a close, excitement is building among the university students preparing to embark on this year’s UM Chaplaincy Summer volunteering experiences. Over 80 students will be dedicating part of their summer to serving others through a variety of projects in Ethiopia, Egypt, Albania, Florence, Cagliari, Rome and Malta.
For these students, these summer experiences are much more than a journey abroad. They are an opportunity to encounter different cultures, build meaningful relationships, and most importantly, to place themselves at the service of communities in need. Through educational programmes, social outreach, healthcare support, and activities for children and young people, the volunteers will contribute to projects that seek to promote human dignity, solidarity and hope.
Preparation for the summer missions has been underway for several months. Students have been participating in regular formation sessions designed to help them reflect on the values that underpin their service and to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities they may encounter. Team-building activities have also played an important role, helping participants develop trust, friendship and a spirit of collaboration within their respective groups.
Fund-raising initiatives have been taking place throughout the year to help support the projects and make the volunteering experiences possible. At the same time, students have been busy collecting materials for crafts, educational materials, medical supplies and other resources that will be used in the communities they will visit. Considerable effort is also being invested in planning and preparing the summer school programmes, healthcare activities and other initiatives that will be carried out during the weeks ahead.
